The thought you put into this story, down to the very details of the characters' appearances and the aspects of the scenery, is incredible. Now I want the story, plus a graphic novel edition of it!
One thing I've written and seen in real life is when a person is reserved and doesn't want to be seen by the crowd, they hunch a lot. They physically "hide" any way they can. Elias holding the book in his hands, to me, seems like another way he is hiding. He's ignoring the terrifying realities around him just by holding something that grounds him to the familiar. So even if he isn't physically crooked, he looks feeble and frail. UGH, Elias has my heart and soul, honestly. I want nothing but the best for him 😭
Thank you so much for this lovely comment. Haha, who knows, maybe there will be an illustrated version of it one day. It is a slow burn given that I only have an hour or two a day to work on these things, but I definitely dream of something like that. ^^
I definitely agree with the hunched down thing. I debated with that myself, whether I wanted him to be more hidden, or just shocked, like life had slapped him in the face. I am no doubt going to draw him again, so I shall have to experiment with this. The book is very much an anchor, something small and tangible. I also love the thought that if you are holding something, you don't give away too much of your inner turmoil by having your hands work involuntarily.

I think the slow burn aspect makes it even better. Every part of this story has so much time to ruminate and develop tons of depth that way. You have a real gift for writing AND art. I can't wait to see more from Elias, when the muse persists and time permits!
