Feels to me like something that a lot of the police / detective serials do with great panache. Engrenages, Line of Duty, etc - maxi character arcs and development over a season, with weekly payoffs.
I totally agree. I am not often one for a good crime show as I am a bit of a wimp sometimes, and don't necessarily like really dark stories. But the times when I have come across these shows, they are always excellent at having a great payoff each episode, whilst still tightening the strings of the bigger story. One that comes to mind for me is the BBC show from the 2000's. 'Life on Mars'.
SO GOOD! Probably one of my fave shows of all time. The insight into the world of my parents. The way it explored outdated ideas through a modern lens, the way the narrative really chugged along. All the little reveals. Agh, its making me want to watch it again.
Yes! Winter project.
