How exciting! I'm very curious how you came up with the rabbits gaining conciousness and their heart strings. It feels like such a unique story idea.
Also, this chapter has left me a bit scared for Ori'on when he said he'd be the one to make the ship travel fast enough by pulling his own heart string. Something about that sounds like big potential for injury or worse. Hope I'm wrong there 😅
Cas'shya is a really lovely character, excited to learn more about her!
Oh, and I'd love something like a pronunciation guide for the rabbits' names haha
I obviously love rabbits and I adore all the little realistic bunny actions you’ve incorporated into the Rabbit kind.! And wow you also were right about the pairing for this chapter. Cas’shya is silly and happy but also has depth and layers that I imagine are just barely being explored in this chapter. Can’t wait to continue!
I'm glad you enjoyed that. It's an odd tightrope trying to make these rabbits clearly integrated into human society, and clearly relatable, but also distinctly rabbit. I am never sure if I have got the balance right.
Also, im glad you obviously love rabbits. I would have to wonder at the mental state of anyone who doesn't find those little bouncy fluff friends at least a little bit cute and endearing!?
It's clear that you've put a lot of thought into the rabbits and how different they and their experience is from human. It can be hard to describe a being so completely outside of our existence and not make it human in thought and motivation. I think you did an excellent job in creating and capturing something so different.
I'm really thankful to hear this. It was a hard line to walk, I still get comments from my partner that I need to make them more rabbit, but I think for me it's enough that they are just very different. They see the world in a totally different way to humans due to their inherent connection to the world around them and the way they sense it. I can't wait to explore that dichotomy more.
Hahahaha I was curious how that later interaction would land. It is a very odd scene to think about. On one hand we are so used to pet rabbits in our normal world, so I wanted to juxtapose that as an act of giving and compassion from the Rabbit, rather than a taken pleasure and comfort from the human.
I am delighted it made you feel all the feels.
The next chapter is a bit more action packed and follows our next new character, Lys, the hawk-eyed security officer who creeped Cas'shya out during that presentation. It will hopefully be a bit more revealing of the world that this story will take place in.
Once I have that first three chapters foundation (main characters, main world, main themes). I have a plan for the first act to set up the bigger internal conflicts and mysteries.
I never suspected that this story would eventually become my fave to write. But here we are. Sometimes the weirdest ideas are the best.
Yeah, I had to add that in there, as I've already had friends ask me if the book gets weird and has Human - Rabbit relationships. 🤣 I have decided for myself that the answer to that is already no, only platonic.
It's an interesting thought because we are so conditioned to be the only species that has our level of intelligence. So it does make you wonder if romantic love would develop if humans had a few other species of similar or equal intelligence to them, and how taboo that would be. Given all the anti immigration sentiment in the US and the UK at the moment it makes me think the answer would probably be very taboo. (Though it does exist in the Star wars universe, and in Lord of the rings, to name a couple of titans of the genre).
Platonic love makes sense though. We already have that in our real world. For example people with pets will often describe that relationship as love. Though it is platonic love, like you might have for a close friend or family member. I remember when my elderly cat died and it was like I had lost someone in the close family. So yes, long story short. No romantic stuff, but there is the potential for very strong chosen family and friend dynamics to play out in time.

You’ve nailed it, at least so far!
And yes I agree, would take a particularly awful person to not like bunnies
Ya know those moments when goofy gets all blushing and says 'gawsh,' or 'shucks'.
Yeah, that. 😊
