TRANSCRIPT OF RECOVERED CORRESPONDENCE:
Dear Dad,
We tried to do it your way. We booked the room with the balcony. We could hear the concert from the gardens, Franz Ferdinand was playing ‘Take Me Out,’ and I know you were air-drumming wherever you are.
Mum poured a dram of your favourite single malt. The Glenfarclas 15. She set it on the railing, one for the road. But we were all on edge. The grief has made us snap at each other all week. When that pigeon swooped down and knocked the glass off the ledge, we all screamed, in general, and at eachother. Mum shouted at me for leaving it there; I shouted at my brother. We were terrified it would hit someone four floors down on the street. It was a heavy crystal tumbler, it could have really hurt someone.
But there was no sound. No smash.
We ran all the way down to the street, hearts hammering, expecting the worst. But there it was. Resting upright in a patch of fresh snow by the entrance. Not a scratch on the crystal. And Dad... not a drop was spilled.
There was no one around. Just a set of tracks in the snow next to the glass, long, narrow prints, like a rabbits footprints, but deep, as if something heavy had landed there and sprung away. And for a second, looking up, I thought I saw a blur of white fur near the Christmas tree outside the hotel, like a beard, or a tail.
We sat on the cold steps and drank the whisky right there. Mum said you must have caught it. She said you wouldn’t let good whisky go to waste.
Happy New Year, Dad.

ARCHIVIST’S NOTE:Subject reports a miraculous object recovery. The operative, likely perched on the building architecture, executed a high-velocity dive and utilized a ‘Gravitational landing’ to decelerate the target object before impact. The ‘white blur’ suggests a camouflage-adapted operative common to Scotland. This simple intervention, a new years miracle, is exactly the kind of bringing together we see reported often.
